Short answer: Big Walk is a co-op hiking and communication game. Your group moves through a shared landscape, notices something that needs doing, then uses voice, text, gestures, tools, and physical positioning to work it out together. The official material presents it as a 2-12 player game with no meaningful solo mode, so the key question is not whether one person can carry the team; it is whether the group enjoys sharing information when they cannot all see or reach the same thing.
Watch the official overview first
Watch the official Big Walk gameplay overview on YouTube. It is the best no-spoiler starting point because it is the developer/publisher’s own material. This page does not mirror or recut that video; the text below gives you a quick way to decide whether it shows the kind of session your group wants.

The gameplay loop, without solutions
The official FAQ and overview establish these broad parts of a session:
- Choose a group and host a world. Big Walk supports 2, 3, and 4+ player world settings, with content adjusted for the group tier. The original host carries the world progress.
- Hike, scout, and communicate. Players can separate across terrain, but voice and text are limited by distance and obstacles. The official material also shows tools such as walkie-talkies, binoculars, flares, and gestures.
- Coordinate around a physical problem. A group may need to describe what it sees, keep someone in position, carry an object, signal a teammate, or combine observations. This page deliberately does not reveal individual puzzle answers.
- Open more ways to travel and explore. The game’s broad progression moves from the opening area into a larger island with routes and group objectives. Use the Walkthrough only when your group wants help choosing its next task.
The enjoyable part is often the handoff between these steps: one player sees the clue, another reaches the control, and the group has to agree on what to try. The official footage shows the shape of that interaction, but it cannot predict whether your particular group will find it satisfying.
What to decide before the first session
Big Walk’s official rules make a few choices more important than they would be in a drop-in game:
- Pick a reliable host. The host owns the continuing world. Choose the person most likely to be present when the group returns.
- Match the world size to regular attendance. The group tier has a minimum player count and adjusts parts of the world. Do not pick a tier based only on the biggest possible night.
- Decide how you want to communicate. In-game voice and text are part of the experience and change with distance. External chat is a personal choice, but it removes those designed limits.
- Give the group enough time to settle in. The first session works better when no one needs to rush straight to a fixed ending. For a dated planning range, see How Long to Beat.

What this page intentionally leaves out
This is a buying and first-session orientation, not a walkthrough. It does not name late-game actions, map locations, puzzle solutions, or endings. When a group is already playing and needs an answer, use the task that matches the problem: Walkthrough for broad progress, Puzzles for a visible mechanism, or Connection Issues when someone cannot get into the host’s world.
